About HSO
HSO is a leading Microsoft business transformation partner, helping organizations leverage Microsoft cloud technologies, security, data, and business applications to achieve lasting business value.
We are expanding our Infrastructure, Security & Modern Workplace team and are looking for an experienced Security & Infrastructure Engineer Contractor to support customer projects across Azure, Microsoft 365, security, and cloud infrastructure initiatives. This role is ideal for independent consultants and contractors with strong Microsoft cloud and security expertise.
Contract Details
- Freelance/contract engagement, starting with an initial 2-month project
- Fully remote within North Macedonia
- Expected to be available between 10:00–18:00 CET for communication and collaboration, with flexible working hours outside this window.
- Opportunity to work on projects for international customers
- Potential to transition into a permanent, full-time position based on performance and mutual fit
Responsibilities
- As a Security & Infrastructure Engineer Contractor, you will:
- Work with solution architects and project teams to design and deliver Microsoft Security solutions across Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Implement, administer, and troubleshoot Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) and hybrid identity solutions.
- Configure and manage Microsoft security technologies, including Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel.
- Implement and maintain Conditional Access, MFA, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and Zero Trust security controls.
- Support security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability remediation, and compliance initiatives.
- Assess customer environments and provide recommendations to improve security posture and governance.
- Support cloud migration and modernization projects, ensuring security is embedded throughout the solution lifecycle.
- Implement and troubleshoot backup, recovery, and business continuity solutions.
- Maintain technical documentation and stay current with emerging security technologies and best practices.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of experience in Security Engineering, Cloud Security, Infrastructure Security, or a similar role.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
- Microsoft Defender Suite
- Microsoft Sentinel
- Azure Security Center / Defender for Cloud
- Conditional Access
- Identity Governance
- Privileged Identity Management (PIM)
- Microsoft Intune
- Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance
- Experience administering and securing Azure and hybrid environments.
- Experience working within enterprise Microsoft environments and customer-facing consulting engagements.
- PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Professional proficiency in English.

Role Overview HSO is seeking an experienced technical leader to shape and evolve its Monitoring & Observability service across Dynamics 365, Power Platform, AI agents, Azure, and hybrid environments. Working closely with the Service Owner and monitoring development team, this role will set technical direction, translate strategy into scalable service design, and improve onboarding, automation, reliability, and cost efficiency. The role combines architecture, platform strategy, operational improvement, technical mentoring, and clear communication. A key priority is building a differentiated observability offering for Microsoft business applications, not only infrastructure monitoring. Key Responsibilities Partner with the Service Owner to define the technical strategy and roadmap, including priorities, risks, dependencies, investment options, and practical recommendations. Act as the senior technical authority for the service, setting architecture, engineering, observability, alerting, dashboard, telemetry, and service-health standards. Lead the evolution of monitoring capabilities across Dynamics 365, Power Platform, AI agents (Copilot Studio + Microsoft Foundry, Azure Monitor, and hybrid environments, with business applications as the primary focus. Improve how the service is developed, onboarded, changed, and operated by removing bottlenecks, manual effort, and unnecessary dependencies. The Opportunity As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at HSO, you would work directly with customers to identify opportunities, shape solutions, and lead AI projects from initial discovery through to production support. You’ll design and implement cloud-based machine learning and AI solutions, establish robust development and MLOps practices, and resolve complex technical or architectural challenges. You’ll also play an important leadership role by coaching technical colleagues, sharing knowledge, and helping HSO stay across emerging AI technologies and use cases. This role is broader than model development. You’ll consider the complete solution, including data, cloud infrastructure, security, privacy, integration, deployment, and monitoring. What You’ll Be Doing Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, support, and maintenance of production AI and machine learning solutions. Work directly with customers to understand business challenges, scope opportunities, and recommend practical technical approaches. Lead AI projects end to end, working independently or guiding a multidisciplinary project team. Design and apply appropriate AI, cloud, data, integration, and solution architecture patterns. Build maintainable, well-tested solutions that use cloud technologies wherever appropriate. Establish and improve machine learning development lifecycles using DevOps and MLOps practices. Identify and resolve complex technical, architectural, security, and performance issues. Provide technical support and identify opportunities to improve the reliability and maintainability of existing solutions. Translate complex technical concepts and architectural decisions for non-technical stakeholders. Facilitate customer workshops that support discovery, solution design, knowledge transfer, and the adoption of new technologies. Produce clear technical documentation to support project delivery and ongoing operations. Explore emerging technologies and evaluate how they can be applied to new customer and business challenges. Coach and mentor technical colleagues, supporting their project delivery and professional development. Design or implement supporting components outside machine learning where these are required for a complete solution. What You’ll Bring Ideally, at least five years of development experience delivering AI or machine learning solutions into production. A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. Demonstrated experience designing and delivering secure, scalable, and maintainable AI solutions. Broad experience with current cloud technologies, platforms, and services. Strong understanding of machine learning development lifecycles and practical DevOps and MLOps experience. Experience with source control, automated testing, deployment pipelines, monitoring, and production support. Proven experience leading technical projects or project teams from discovery through to delivery. The ability to explain complex technical architecture and solutions to non-technical audiences. Strong customer-facing consulting, workshop facilitation, and stakeholder management skills. Experience accurately scoping technical work, identifying dependencies, and providing recommendations. Location This is a hybrid role and can be based either from our London, Glasgow or Manchester offices, as well as from home. There will be regular, planned travel, involving overnight stays near our offices and other UK locations for customer / internal meetings, events and training. Experience leading complex, enterprise-scale transformation programs. Strong stakeholder management skills, including executive-level engagement. Knowledge of business processes across Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Distribution, Retail, or Professional Services.
