“One of the best aspects of my job is helping teammates. Advising colleagues on challenging issues is what energizes me!”

A day in the life of...

Via LinkedIn, Disary ended up with a job at HSO and has been there since 2022. Initially, she had to adjust to the cultural differences, but now Disary feels right at home in the integration team. She greatly appreciates the freedom to manage her daily tasks independently, but helping teammates and clients is what energizes Disary. Curious about what her day as an Integration Engineer is like? Read on to find out!

9:00 AM – Start-up calls with the Integration team

“Since my team has a hybrid work arrangement, we begin the day with start-up meetings online. This allows us to catch up on projects and align our efforts, whether you’re working from home, or at the office.” Besides discussing work-related matters, they make time to check in on each other personally. “It took me a while to get used to this. In the Netherlands, people are direct, but also very helpful. I really feel like I’ve landed in a welcoming environment!”

11:00 AM – Tackling projects and supporting teammates

After morning meetings, Disary dives into ongoing integration projects. She knows she can rely on her teammates, and vice versa. “One of the best aspects of my work is helping my colleagues! Everyone in the integration team is very supportive. I can always turn to my teammates and manager. Whether someone holds a junior or senior position, we help answer each other’s questions and are always available to give advice.”

2:00 PM – Interacting with clients and Microsoft

Back to business! After a productive morning and a lunch break, Disary engages with her clients regarding implemented integrations solutions. “I mainly assist my clients remotely, but I still feel like we are one big team. That’s because we are in contact almost daily.” Disary also collaborates regularly with Microsoft’s Azure team when she needs assistance or advice.

A pleasant work atmosphere and company culture

4:00 PM – Online demo for a client

At the end of the day, Disary conducts an online demo for one of her clients. During this session, she showcases the design of Azure integrations and guides the client through the cloud environment. “During the call, we also discuss whether there are any specific adjustments or optimizations required.”

5:30 PM – Time to unwind!

Disary finds the excellent work-life balance a major advantage of working in the Netherlands. “It’s wonderful to have enough time for relaxation after a productive workday. We regularly do something fun together as a team – recently we took a cooking class together. Besides good working relationships, I’ve also built close friendships at HSO. This contributes to the pleasant work atmosphere and company culture.”

“We’re becoming more international”

Expats bring fresh ideas and new energy. But they also face challenges. A new country, a different culture, unfamiliar work habits – and on top of that, building a social life.  To exchange experiences and build connections, an expat community was created. Not a formal club, but a space where international colleagues can meet – over lunch, at a drinks event or just for a good conversation.  We spoke with three of them about their experience: what was it like arriving in the Netherlands? What stands out in the work culture here? And what does it mean to be part of this community?

"Not your diploma, but your drive. Not your experience, but your curiosity." That seems unthinkable – but not at HSO. "With the right basic attitude, anyone can get started here," says Henk-Jan Brommer, manager of HSO Academy. It sounds ambitious, but practice shows that it works.

Collaborating with other business units

Professional development begins with collaboration. The biggest steps are taken when we combine our knowledge and talents. Take Albert Hol (Project Manager) and Gerben Mulder (Consultant Management). They worked together on a project for a large retailer, where the billing process was renewed within Dynamics Finance & Operations using Azure Functions. The solution enables the retailer to process and invoice about 150,000 order lines quickly and accurately every day.

Human Resources & Talent

Manager, Total Rewards

Position Summary At HSO, how we pay and support our people reflects how much we value them. As Manager, Total Rewards, you will own the strategy behind our compensation, benefits, and payroll programs, ensuring they are competitive, compliant, and aligned with our business goals. This is a hands-on leadership role. In the near term, you'll also personally manage payroll and benefits operations for our 400+ person remote workforce, while building the case for - and hiring - a Coordinator to support you. Once that hire is in place, you'll shift fully into a strategic total rewards leadership role. We're looking for someone who can operate at both altitudes: comfortable owning compensation strategy and compliance at the executive level, and equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves to keep payroll and benefits running accurately in the meantime. Key Responsibilities Total Rewards Strategy Own the design, competitiveness, and compliance of compensation and benefits programs across the organization. Conduct market benchmarking and internal equity analyses; recommend pay structures, incentives, and benefits offerings that support retention and business goals. Lead annual compensation review cycles, Variable Compensation Plan (VCP) administration, and compensation modeling for leadership. Lead self-funded health plan strategy, vendor and carrier negotiations, and annual renewal and open enrollment strategy. Monitor and interpret pay transparency, ERISA, ACA, FMLA, and related regulations, translating requirements into policy and process. Lead pay equity analyses and FLSA classification reviews. Payroll & Benefits Leadership (Near Term) Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for 400+ remote employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance across jurisdictions. Manage day-to-day benefits administration: enrollments, changes, terminations, and carrier updates. Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll and benefits questions. Prepare ACA reporting and 401(k) audit documentation. Process and reconcile expense reimbursements, including audits for policy violations or duplicate submissions Building the Function Define and hire for the future Payroll & Benefits Coordinator role. Transition operational work to the Coordinator once hired, retaining strategic oversight. Build a scalable total rewards function positioned for HSO's long-term growth. What You'll Bring to the Team 7-10 years of progressive experience in compensation, benefits, or total rewards, including hands-on payroll experience. Proficiency with payroll systems (ADP, Paylocity) and HRIS platforms; BambooHR experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with multi-state payroll tax compliance. Deep knowledge of ERISA, ACA, FMLA, and pay transparency law. Comfort operating at both a strategic and hands-on level — this role requires both, especially early on. CPP, CEBS, or SHRM-SCP/SPHR is a plus. Why You'll Succeed You see total rewards as a lever for business performance, not just administration.

You're comfortable building something from the ground up, including your own future team. You bring rigor and precision to compliance work without losing sight of the bigger strategic picture. Why join HSO? HSO is a global Microsoft partner and business transformation leader, helping organizations modernize operations through Dynamics 365, Azure, Data & AI, and the Power Platform ecosystem.
