“In een camper in de bergen van Patagonië nam ik de beslissing: ik maak de stap van consultant naar projectmanager.”

Claudia van Brussel, 31 jaar, woont sinds afgelopen jaar in Veenendaal en volgde in 2020 de Masterclass. Ze startte als Consultant binnen de Finance & Operations afdeling, maar was toe aan een verbreding van haar skills. In deze blog lees je hoe HSO ruimte creëerde voor haar zoektocht en de groei richting haar nieuwe functie faciliteerde.

Van wiskundestudent naar IT-consultant

Ik begon mijn carrière met een master Wiskunde en een onduidelijke toekomstvisie. Ik wist niet precies waar mijn passie lag, maar HSO trok mijn aandacht door een vriend die mij enthousiast vertelde over zijn werk bij HSO. De afdeling Finance & Operations bleek de ideale omgeving, waar complexiteit en uitdaging hand in hand gaan.

Ik startte met de Masterclass bij HSO. Na het volgen van de Masterclass draaide ik al snel mee met interessante projecten, waaronder een implementatieproject waar ik klanten door het gebouwde systeem loodste en ondersteuning bood bij productie en planning processen. Daarnaast kreeg ik de kans om een intern project met mijn buddy op te zetten, resulterend in een tool die nu binnen verschillende afdelingen van het bedrijf wordt gebruikt.

Kantelpunt op wereldreis 

Bij HSO kom ik ook voortdurend in aanraking met diverse vakgebieden, aangezien we Microsoft-services leveren in verschillende industrieën. Hierdoor blijft mijn carrière constant in ontwikkeling en zijn de mogelijkheden eindeloos.

Samen met mijn vriend ging ik een jaar op wereldreis, waarvan ik ook een paar maanden remote werkte. Tijdens deze reis had ik de ruimte om na te denken over de volgende stap in mijn carrière. Door gesprekken met andere projectmanagers, verdieping in change management en de juiste coaching van mijn team, kreeg ik de ruimte om na te denken over de rol van Project Manager. Het voelt als de juiste keuze: samenwerken, sparren met klanten en ervoor zorgen dat alles soepel verloopt. In een camper tussen de bergen van Patagonië nam ik de beslissing met mijn Team Lead: van Consultant naar Project Manager.

Tijdens mijn reis realiseerde ik me waar ik echt goed in ben, ik ben een planner, houd het reisbudget in de gaten, ben een regelmiep, snel en adequaat. Dit zijn echte PM-taken, toch anders dan consultancy. Het plezier van samenwerken, of het nu intern met collega's is of extern met klanten, geeft me energie. Het vermogen om mezelf te zijn in deze samenwerkingsverbanden versnelt niet alleen het werk maar creëert ook een omgeving waarin iedereen elkaar sneller helpt.

Mijn wereldreis was absoluut een hoogtepunt, vooral omdat ik het kon combineren met een workation. Zo kon ik onderweg werken en mijn droom, van remote werken, leven. Toch was ik ook blij om weer terug te zijn. Als mensenmens krijg ik energie van klantcontact en gezellige collega’s. Daarom kijk ik ernaar uit om in de toekomst nog meer feestjes en borrels mee te pakken. 

Vooruitkijken

Dit jaar wil ik persoonlijk leiderschap als prioriteit stellen. Het doorgronden van mijn eigen leiderschapsstijl, het vermogen om anderen te inspireren en doeltreffend te communiceren, vormen de bouwstenen voor mijn persoonlijke groei.

Mijn doel? De juiste mensen samenbrengen, op de juiste posities plaatsen en zo bijdragen aan het behalen van de doelen van de klant. Het maken van de juiste keuzes die leiden tot succes.
