An Architect's Vision: Building Business Value at HSO

An experienced Enterprise Architect with over 20 years’ blue-chip experience, Mark made the leap to HSO because of its people-first culture.

“I wanted to work in an organisation where individuals are valued and can make a contribution as an important cog in a large machine.”

Mark had enjoyed a long-standing career of selling, designing and implementing best business application-based solutions for tier one companies all over the world. It’s a role he loves. He gets a real buzz out of ensuring the technical solutions he creates deliver the business value that the client needs.

Increasingly though, he wanted to carry out that role in an industry-leading environment where the individual was really valued and where the organization really cared. Aware of HSO’s reputation for putting its ‘large enough to serve, small enough to care,’ slogan into practice, he got in touch. He’s now been thriving in our Unified Operations team since July 2023.

“We're not really a technology company. We're a people company.”

Mark believes HSO’s culture of respect comes straight from the top of the company. It’s the guiding light for how clients are treated, as well as colleagues. Clients are served as people rather than numbers. Meanwhile, colleagues are seen as hard-working experts with lives outside their job.

“There’s a sense of fairness, individuality and personal accountability that also helps teams collaborate together even better,” Mark comments.

And it’s easier to establish good working relationships with clients because they’re based on the core HSO values of transparency and honesty. After all, as Mark says, it’s those values which “drive success.”

“There is no cookie cutter approach.”

In this space, technology is always evolving. And so, clients’ needs are, too. Luckily, Mark is clearly someone who likes living out the old adage that ‘variety is the spice of life’. When asked to sum up his day-to-day role, he smiles and says: “It’s not a job where one day is the same as the next. You need to have an appetite to jump into the unknown.”

And that means understanding clients’ worlds beyond the technical brief. Mark believes that a wider understanding of their sectors’ challenges and opportunities is important: it helps get under the skin of what they need to achieve for business success.

So, a hunger for ongoing learning is key. As is the ability to relate and connect to people at all levels of an organisation. And, given that HSO is a truly global company with global clients and colleagues, being able to motivate and encourage people from different cultures and countries is crucial.

I’m looking forward to helping to shape the way we work together, building the team in the HSO way, so my colleagues and clients thrive.
