Case Study: De Goudse Verzekeringen
Founded in 1924, De Goudse Verzekeringen has always been at the forefront of the insurance industry. Initially relying on on-premises software and BizTalk Server, they embarked on a transformative journey to the cloud. Their strategic migration involved a gradual transition, starting with smaller parts of the development environment. This phased approach ensured seamless integration and minimal disruption to their operations.
Discover below what made this migration and implementation a success.
When they started setting up their cloud environment in 2018, De Goudse opted for Microsoft solutions, including Azure. De Goudse has a 'SaaS before PaaS before IaaS strategy'. The integration reference architecture took on as many Azure PaaS (Platform as a Service) solutions as possible and HSO followed this strategy as closely as possible. This phased approach ensured smooth connections to the Azure cloud.

Goudse Verzekeringen started rebuilding Microsoft BizTalk Server from on-premises to the Azure Cloud. HSO played an important role in taking over the management of the platform.
With BizTalk in Azure, a well-functioning hybrid cloud environment was set up for the insurance systems that were still on-premises, but with every step there was increased need to move completely to the cloud. To anticipate the transition, API management was activated to manage web services and apps.

A year later (2019), the organization looked to integrate a new SaaS application. This provided the perfect opportunity to apply cloud-native integrations using Azure Integration Services (iPaaS). HSO supported this process by creating a solution architecture for this implementation and then collaborating with internal specialists to create these integrations.

In 2020, De Goudse had disconnected the last data center and the insurer had now fully switched to the cloud. There was still work to be done to remove BizTalk entirely from the IT landscape. In the following years (until 2023), the organization slowly migrated separate components, allowing them to gradually modernize integrations. This allowed for a strategic new structure to be built.
