Why Covid has broken the fear factor around digital transformation

Since March 2020, local government has experienced an unprecedented digital transformation. The changes were driven by an overwhelming public health crisis, but we now have the opportunity to build on the innovations that were forced by necessity, from improved operating models and service delivery to better customer experience.

But the way forward is not straightforward, and there are multiple issues for local authorities to consider: the new expectations of residents about interacting with councils in new ways; addressing digital inclusion; legacy systems and outdated or unavailable digital infrastructure, and improving coordination between local government, healthcare and the voluntary sector.
