Your Top 5 Dynamics Support Issues: Answered!
There’s nothing worse than spending months planning your ERP implementation only to discover the system isn’t working properly once it’s gone live. In this post, we share the top five support issues we see among Microsoft Dynamics users and what you can do about it.
#1) Incorrect setup
Setting up an ERP system can be a daunting task for an enterprise. There are many parameters and decisions to be made during your implementation and you need the support of a team who understands the ins and outs of your business. Our recommendation: Don’t go it alone. A trusted Microsoft Dynamics partner can help you map out your ERP implementation and ensure you have the right resources for an accurate system setup.
#2) Security & Permissions
How many times have you heard your employees complain, “I don’t have access.” Assigning the correct roles within the system is certainly one of the most common issues we hear from users. Fortunately, there are tools from Microsoft that will assist you in mapping a business process to a role using the Task Recorder. Also, Microsoft Dynamics has some added security features around Role, Duties, Privileges and Permissions that can help you get the right access to the right people.
#3) Error messages
This is without question the most popular support issue we see. Sometimes these warning and error messasges are really helpful and can rapidly point you in the right direction to fix a problem. However, some of them are a bit trickier and require a careful investigation. Having a dedicated managed services partner in place after your go-live date can help you avoid some of the nastier error messages and offer preventive support to ensure your system is running as intended.
#4) Improper User Training
If you build it, they may come, but that doesn’t mean they will come knowing how to use it. Without a formal training program and change management plan, your employees may be using the system incorrectly or worse, they will become frustrated and abandon the system entirely. Our advice: Invest in a formal training program for your users (from the beginning) that covers the A-Z of your AX or 365 environment.
#5) Performance issues
From time to time, you might notice that your system isn’t performing exactly like it was on the day you went live. There are many factors that impact the performance of your ERP, such as the number of users in the system, how many processes you have running, server and hardware configuration, network connectivity, etc.
So what can you do to ensure your Microsoft Dynamics environment is running optimally? At a minimum, we suggest you take advantage of Lifecycle Services, an Azure-based, collaborative support platform for Dynamics customers. Lifecycle Services (LCS) is a set of tools designed to help you get the most out of your solution. LCS allows you to upload key Microsoft Dynamics system information to get indicators and messages about your systems’ health. From monitoring the health of your system, providing centralized searches from the Microsoft knowledge base to analyzing the code in your system, Lifecycle Services can help keep your environment running smoothly.
