We had a chat with a few of our new starters here at HSO, to see what they thought of their time whilst joining a company in the middle of a pandemic.

For good or bad here are their responses…


Question 1  – What made you choose HSO?


Rufus – I’d heard good things about HSO in the industry and had previous colleagues join, who all recommended it as a place to work. Plus the opportunity to talk through my future with David Little (Managing Director) at the interview stage made it really clear HSO were investing in me from the very beginning.

Graham – HSO was an attraction to myself as I believe HSO to be a good fit with my own personal values. HSO look after their employees and always strives for customer satisfaction.

Natalie – I wanted to work at HSO for the culture and the value they have for their people, plus everyone I spoke to spoke so highly of the company, it was refreshing to hear.

Karen – I liked the sound of the company, they seem very people focused and it was the kind of company I thought I would fit into well.

Question 2 – How was your induction?


Rufus – Busy! There was always a lot to learn and people to meet remotely, but everyone was very welcoming and did what they could to make the experience as easy as possible.

Graham – My induction was very thorough and covered everything I needed to get my feet off the ground. I was especially impressed by the HSO L&D (Learning & Development) culture. The best I have seen to date in my career.

Natalie – My induction was thorough, detailed and fun. It was also nice to meet people who were starting their journey on the same day.

Karen – The induction was great. It was lovely to meet some people (in person) for the first time in 18 months due to lockdown! Also to meet David Little the MD at the induction showed a real investment in the new starters. Additionally the Insights training was very useful and something I had not experienced before in other employment.

Question 3 – Can you describe the culture at HSO?


Rufus – Dedicated! I’ve seen people go above and beyond again and again to deliver value to our clients and do the right thing for them. It’s not always easy, but by setting out to deliver results, we have an effective approach to guide us.

Graham – Very welcoming, helpful community and always keen to be on the latest and greatest of processes and technology.

Natalie – Friendly, professional, knowledgeable and welcoming.

Karen – Very friendly, customer-focused and hardworking.

Question 4 – What’s the best bit about being part of HSO so far?


Rufus – I’m always looking forward to the next film night, or pub quiz, or charity event! It’s a great way to blow off steam and meet new people within the organisation, feeling more and more as part of a diverse team.

Graham – I am almost at the 1st year of working at HSO. I believe the best bit is the communication from the top down and the open and honest culture. I am equally impressed by the acknowledgement that the delivery team have a very challenging role delivering projects to meet the current high demands.

Natalie – I am coming to the end of my fourth week at HSO and I can honestly say that I feel like I have been here longer than 4 weeks! There are so may great things about HSO from the people to the learning you can do here. But for me I think the best is the social side of HSO, where you can meet people and get to know them outside of work.

Karen – Definitely the people! Everyone makes you feel welcome and part of the team. The training focus is also very good.
