For the customer this means any new version or release that you have to consider in order to maintain the currency of your ERP system. Some upgrades are sizable and complex and some will not move your business forward much at all.

Being business improvement led, we always ask what are the benefits? What does your organization need and what is the impact it has on your existing infrastructure? And what are the consequences if you delay or skip an upgrade? All questions must be answered before you can make an informed decision. HSO offers key skills to support and help you make the correct decision for your business.

Upgrade Strategy
To find the right upgrade strategy for your organization, it is important to first determine the reasons, whether or not to upgrade, and what are the underlying needs of your business. Our experience shows us that in general, the following factors are the main reasons to upgrade:

HSO distinguishes two basic types of upgrade:

Technical migration
A Technical Migration is when all the customizations of a previous version are transferred into a new version. The business and processes of the company remain the same, making this method of migrating the minimal effort required from users.

»  1 on 1 migration
»  Short functional fit / gap analysis
»  Customs migration, unless the upgrade removes the need for said
»  Minimal Business change

Business Migration
A Business migration are often more comprehensive. The customizations made to the previous version, need to be revalidated as quite often the business needs behind these modifications can now be addressed by new features/functionality in the new version.

Therefore the additional investment that a business migration entails, can be cost effective and outweigh the management costs of maintaining customizations.
»  More detailed functional fit /gap analysis
»  Makes maximum use of new / standard functionality available
»  Customizations are in scope unless the original business need continues to exist
»  Optimizing business processes
